housework checklist

The house needs to be clean, not super clean but the ability to walk through a room is helpful.
I know what needs to be done but have a hard time staying on top of it all, and while I know what needs to be completed I have a hard time remembering it and before I know it its been 2 months since I cleaned windows and I need to spend a whole morning getting them all clean.

I have seen checklists for keeping track of housework as I am sure you have
Mon-laundry
tues-vacuum
wed-wash floors
etc, etc

But what happens if you work? what happens if you work shifts?

I work shifts and my schedule changes every 4 weeks ( with 7 different rotations) which means as soon as you get into a routine with meals , housework , babysitters and homework you are changing it again.
Nope that housework checklist wasn't working but then I thought of this. . .

I listed everything I need to do- leaving out laundry and other things I do almost daily-then how often I needed to do them in a months time. I was realistic about how much cleaning I would do not how much I should do.

I made blocks to show how often I will do this in a month and to give me a place to check them off (thanks dry erase markers ).

Prettied it up with some colors I like and put it in a frame to hang in my kitchen.

Now this means I can look at my checklist see what I can do in the time I have available and check it off when it is done. I love to mark things off!

I can see when something has been avoided forgotten and deal with it.

Not that this is a checklist just for my use I can also see what needs to be done to assign to the kids when they are "bored"

I made mine a monthly checklist because the time varies from week to week that I want to spend doing housework but you can make yours weekly as well.

Yours? you wonder. I have made you  a blank printable checklist that you can print out and fill in with your housework. If you want to have spots to check off you can darken out the squares with a pen, leaving only your frequency showing in the light green.

  2. I think this is a great idea. I tend to 'forget' the things I don't like doing too.

Re your kitchen table... clean it off every night before dinner (whether you eat at it or not). Probably a harder thing to do with the rotating shift, but with my kiddos they keep their toys picked up because they have to pick them up each time before they watch tv. Really helps when it is more people helping.
